For Immediate Release
Albion, MI – The Indiana Tech women’s tennis team kicked-off their spring indoor tennis season on February 19 against Albion College in Albion, MI. It was the first time for the Warrior’s to face the NCAA DIII Britons and their coach Scott Frew, USPTA. It was a coaches reunion as Coach Frew was on the teaching and coaching staff at Ferris State University when Indiana Tech’s Coach Moster was attending Ferris.
It was a tough day for the Lady Warriors as they took on a very talented team with a deep roster. Despite the loss, the Lady Warriors did show some success with a close doubles match at #2 doubles with a new doubles combination of junior Danielle Ledbetter (Bluffton, IN/Norwell HS) and senior Jessica Groce (Milford, MI/Milford HS).
One of the more exciting singles matches was from sophomore Marisol Granados (Orland, IN/Prairie Heights HS). Although she lost in straight sets, the battle against a very solid player and maybe the best she has competed against, produced a very close 6-3, second set. Marisol moved from her normal #6 singles spot to the #5 position. It was a big move for her, but didn’t faze her one bit.
The Lady Warriors now prepare for their additional early spring indoor matches as they will travel to Grand Rapids and Battle Creek to compete against Grand Rapids Community College and NCAA DIII Olivet College. The Warriors have competed very well against these teams and look to continue that success and pick-up two key wins during their indoor campaign. The Lady Warriors are 0-1 for the spring and 1-5 for the 2010-11 season.
