For Immediate Release
Olivet, MI – The Indiana Tech Lady Warriors finished their indoor season on the road again in Michigan. The weekend started with match play against Grand Rapids Community College and ended with Olivet College.
The Warriors were able to pick-up some big wins against Grand Rapids C.C., but were defeated in the match. Indiana Tech’s wins came from the doubles team of senior Aide Martinez (Queretaro, Mexico/John F. Kennedy) and junior Christina Ausler (Denver, Colorado/Colorado-Denver) and in two singles matches – Martinez in straight sets 6-0 6-2 and from sophomore Marisol Granados (Orland, Indiana/Prairie Heights) 6-4 6-3. Despite their singles loses, Ausler and senior Jessica Groce (Milford, MI/Milford) won their first sets and ended up losing in three extremely close sets. They were great matches to watch.
The weekend ended with the match against Olivet College. Indiana Tech and Olivet College have had some great matches over the past five years and this was no different. The match began with two great doubles matches. The Warriors lost both but were able to keep them close and made them very competitive. The team of Groce/Granados battled back after being down by a couple service breaks and were defeated 9-8. The biggest match came down to Marisol Granados as she won a very close first set, but had to go three sets and was defeated in a match tie-breaker for the third set.
Although the Warriors lost their two matches, their level of play was as high as it’s ever been at the beginning of a spring season. The team now prepares for the beginning of their outdoor play in late March and the upcoming conference season.
