INFORMATION | FORT WAYNE, Ind. –The Indiana Tech Wrestling team has announced they will, for the second year in a row, take part in the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event to raise awareness in Fort Wayne for victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse crimes against women.
The wrestlers bring an energy that is much needed for this event and for their efforts last year they were awarded the NWCA Best of Brands “Solid Service Award,” garnishing national attention to the event, on YouTube, and in the wrestling world.
“For me personally this strikes home as I have family that has been hurt in this manner and so it means a lot to help raise awareness,” said Head Coach Mike Ester. “It’s an important effort for our team as well, because at this age these men are learning what it means to make manly decisions. Around the country there are numerous rapes on college campuses and it means a lot for these guys to walk a mile amongst women who have been sexually assaulted and hopefully it teaches them to treat women with respect.”
This is just one of the numerous ways that the Indiana Tech athletics teams have shown and lived the Warrior Pride mantra and set a strong example in the community.
“This also provides us a mechanism to reach out to other people,” said Ester. “Sometimes people this age feel entitled to what they have, but this is a way to teach these guys they are blessed to be athletes and to be where they are. We aren’t celebrities by any means, but we received many letters of thanks an gratitude for our participation last season. It’s important that our team understand the impact we can have on the lives of others.”
You can help support this great cause as well. Everyone participating in the event has to donate $20, whether it’s out of their pocket or they get a sponsor. If you would like to sponsor an athlete, either for this season or yearly, please contact Mike Ester by phone at 260-422-5561 ext. 2495 or by email at email@example.com
