FORT WAYNE, Ind. – This afternoon the 11th-ranked Indiana Tech Wrestling team will begin its journey to Great Falls, Montana to take part in the Battle of the Rockies Duals hosted by the University of Great Falls on Friday, Dec. 6.
Tech Head Coach Mike Ester will take 11 student-athletes to the event this weekend, headlined by junior Kris McKinley who is currently ranked third in the 125-pound weight class. He is joined in the individual rankings by teammates Adam Fahs, Darryl Grayson, Travis Barroquillo and James Bennett.
Fahs enters this weekend ranked sixth at 149-pounds while Grayson is also sixth at 174-pounds. Barroquillo and Bennett each rank eighth at 141 and 165-pounds, respectively. Also traveling for the Warriors are Mitch Pawlak (133), Chase Hack (157), Kafuba Donzon (165), Taylor DeLong (184), Brandon Sunday (197) and Andre Dunn (285).
The Orange and Black will face some of their stiffest competition of the season as the Warriors are scheduled to face four rank teams on Friday. Tech begins the duals at 2 p.m. against 16th-ranked Dickinson State who feature five ranked wrestlers including three in the top-10 of their weight class. In their second dual, the Warriors will face No. 8 Simpson (Calif.) at 5 p.m. The Red Hawks boast four ranked individuals, including two athletes ranked second in their weight classes in AJ Vales (125) and Austin Lobsinger (285).
At 6:30 p.m. the Warriors will face the No. 2 team in the NAIA, Montana State-Northern. The Skylights enter the duals with 10 ranked individuals including eight in the top-10 of their weight class. At 125-pounds MSNU’s Aaron La Farge and Duell Stadel rank first and second, ahead of McKinley for the Warriors. Ethan Hienbauch is the No.2 wrestler at 165-pounds while Edward Cheff is ranked third at 157-pounds. Cameron Neiss and Toby Cheff are both ranked fourth at 141-pounds and 197-pounds, respectively.
In their final dual of the day, the Orange and Black will face the host Argos of the University of Great Falls. The match against the sixth-ranked Argos will be live streamed here. UGF enters the dual with nine individually ranked wrestlers led by Kamron Jackson who is ranked third at 184-pounds. Shawn Leu is ranked fourth at 165-pounds and Michael Ruiz is fifth at 133. Also in the top-10 are Nicholas Schmidt (6th/157#) and Ryan Martin (8th/149#).
