For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, IN – The Indiana Tech wrestling team has been volunteering at Miami Middle School on the South side of Fort Wayne for the past four weeks for an organization called My Brother’s Keeper where the Warriors have been mentoring, tutoring, and participating in recreational activities with “at risk students.”
“We are proud to have our wrestlers out in the community to help serve the youth of Fort Wayne,” said Head Coach Mike Ester. “It’s part of our mission as a team. We expect to be as good of citizens as we are competitors on a wrestling mat! We would like to thank the founders of the program (Virgil Starks and Gordon Martin) for the opportunity they have given us to be a part of these students’ lives and we hope we are making a positive investment in these students’ future that will be significant for a lifetime.”
The Warrior wrestling team has been very active in the community and will be participating in the13th Annual DSANI Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 1 at Foster Park in Fort Wayne. The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
