Williamsburg, Ky. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team finished in fifth place with 97.0 points on Saturday at the NAIA East Regional while crowning its first ever East Region Champion in freshman Reece Lefever (Ft. Wayne, IN/Carroll).

The Warriors finished just one point behind Lindsey Wilson in the team standings while Campbellsville claimed its first-ever East Region title with a score of 183.5. Missouri Baptist finished second with 117.5 points and Shorter grabbed third with 109.0.

Out of the Warriors’ 11 qualifiers, seven earned seeds at the NAIA National Championships by finishing in the top 4 of their weight classes. Three wrestlers earned All-Tournament honors by placing in the top 3, Reece Lefever, Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider), and Conner Lefever (Ft. Wayne, IN/Carroll).

Reece Lefever went 3-0 en route to winning the 149-lbs. weight class, upsetting the No. 3 seed Esmond Ford (Missouri Baptist), No. 2 seed Matt Milton (Campbellsville), and top-seeded Anthonie Linares (Cumberlands). He earned major decisions over Ford and Milton before taking down Linares by a 6-3 decision to claim the title.

Fellow freshman Tanner Martin came up just one point short of taking home the 174-lbs. championship, falling to Campbellsville’s Josh Ashbrook 3-2 in the finals. Martin finished with a 2-1 record on the day.

Freshman Conner Lefever went 3-1 on his way to placing 3rd at 165-lbs. After scoring a 9-6 victory over Zachary Barkett from Cumberlands, he then dropped a match to fall into the consolation bracket. After earning an 8-6 victory, Lefever faced off with fellow Warrior Kafuba Donzon (Albany, GA/Darton) in the match for third place and defeated Donzon by pin fall.

Donzon, Connor Hughes (Portage, MI/Northern), Dustin Boyd (Mishawaka, IN/Calumet), and Andre Dunn (Kewanee, IL/Lincoln) all took home fourth place. Hughes and Dunn both earned seeds after winning true-fourth place matches while Donzon went 2-2 at 165-lbs., and Boyd finished 2-2 at 184-lbs.

Up next, the Warriors will travel to the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines, Iowa for the NAIA National Championships on March 1-3.
