Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team’s successful inaugural season continued as they were recently recognized by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for their outstanding academic performance in 2011-12.
Not only did the Warriors get the job done on the mat this season, but they also received NAIA/NWCA All-Academic Team honors with a team grade point average of 3.34, the second best team GPA in the nation. The only school to post a higher GPA was the University of Great Falls with a 3.39.
In addition to the team award, six Warrior wrestlers were named to the list of 65 NAIA/NWCA All-Academic Individuals including Travis Barroquillo (Wolcottville, IN/Prairie Heights), Dustin Boyd (Mishawaka, IN/Calumet), Conner Lefever (Ft. Wayne, IN/Carroll), Reece Lefever (Ft. Wayne, IN/Carroll), Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider), and Andre Sanders (Farmington Hills, MI/Harrison).
To qualify as an NAIA/NWCA All-Academic Individuals, student-athletes must have qualified for the national tournament and have at least a 3.25 GPA or be an All-American with at least a 3.0 GPA.
