Great Falls, Mont. – The 15th ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team traveled way out west to Great Falls, Montana on Friday for the Battle of the Rockies Duals hosted by the University of Great Falls where the Warriors squared off against three of the toughest teams the NAIA had to offer.
Tech kicked off the action against No. 7 Montana State University-Northern, but the Lights snuck past the Warriors 26-24.
The Warriors got three of their wins by pin and another by forfeit. At 149-lbs, Sidney Logan (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) pinned his opponent in 2:29 while 16th ranked Logan Rimmer (Temperance, MI/Bedford) needed just 1:52 to earn the pinfall win at 285-lbs. 16th ranked James Bennett (Bowden, GA/Darton) won in 4:34 over 10th ranked Edward Cheff.
Indiana Tech lost another close contest in its second dual meet of the day, this time falling to No. 9 Dickinson State University 26-20.
The All-American duo of Travis Barroquillo (Wolcottville, IN/Prairie Heights) and Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider) led the way for Tech, each winning by pin. Barroquillo, the top-ranked wrestler at 133-lbs, won in 2:03 and Martin, ranked 3rd at 174-lbs, won in 2:24. Bennett and James Starks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider) also picked up victories for the Warriors.
The Warriors wrapped up the day with a 31-18 loss to No. 6 Great Falls.
Barroquillo, Martin, and 16th ranked Dustin Boyd (Mishawaka, IN/Calumet) all notched victories by pinning their opponents. At 157-lbs, Bennett gave 4th ranked Ryan Leonard all he could handle, but Leonard was able to outlast Bennett winning 5-3 in overtime.
The Warriors are right back in action on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Battle of the Rockies Open hosted by the University of Great Falls.
