Painesville, Ohio – While one half of the 13th ranked Indiana Tech wrestling team traveled to Campbellsville University for the Campbellsville Duals, the rest went to Lake Erie College for the Storm Open where four Warrior grapplers had top-6 finishes.
Kafuba Donzon (Albany, GA/Darton), who was wrestling unattached, nabbed fourth place in the 165-lbs weight class after posting a 4-2 record. After falling into the consolation bracket, Donzon earned victories in three straight matches before falling to Francis Mizia of Mercyhurst 6-4 in sudden victory.
At 133-lbs, sophomore Brett Yarbrough (McDonough, GA/Henry County) also went 4-2 on the day to finish in fifth place. Yarbrough dropped his first bout 3-0 to Indianapolis’ Paul Beck but battled back with three consecutive wins. In the match for fifth place, he pinned Mike Manuche of Ohio State in 1:19.
Earning sixth place finishes were Kris McKinley (Ft. Wayne, IN/Nothrop) at 125-lbs and Maisen Hill (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) at 285-lbs.
Indiana Tech returns to the mat on Jan. 12-13 for the 2013 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Springfield, Illinois. Including the Warriors, 14 of the top-16 ranked teams will be competing that day for the National Dual Meet Championship.
Tech qualified for the meet by placing 16th at the NAIA National Championships last season.
