Campbellsville, Ky. – It’s been nearly a month since the last time the Indiana Tech wrestling team competed, but the 13th ranked Warriors were back on the mat on Saturday and got the New Year off to a great start at the Campbellsville Duals hosted by Campbellsville University.
The Warriors dismantled Lindenwood University-Belleville 42-9 to begin the day and followed it up with a 40-12 victory over Darton College. Tech has now won four of its last five dual meets to improve its record to 4-6 on the year.
Against Lindenwood-Belleville, the Warriors won eight of the ten matches with six of those victories coming by pin. Justin Brooks (Warsaw, IN/Indiana), the 14th ranked wrestler at 125-lbs, needed just 1:43 to pin his opponent while No. 7 James Bennett (Bowden, GA/Darton) earned the win in 3:44 at 157-lbs. The 14th ranked grappler at 285-lbs freshman Logan Rimmer (Temperance, MI/Bedford) also won by a 4-2 decision.
In the match against Darton, Tech dropped the first three bouts before taking the next seven to claim the win. The Warriors dominated once again, earning five victories by pin and one major decision.
At 149-lbs, Sidney Logan (Mishawaka, IN/Mishawaka) notched his second win of the day, pinning his opponent in 1:43, and Bennett followed with a 9-0 major decision win at 157-lbs. Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider), the 2nd ranked wrestler at 174-lbs, picked up a fall as well pinning Emory Searles in 2:04.
Indiana Tech returns to the mat on Jan. 12-13 for the 2013 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Springfield, Illinois. Including the Warriors, 14 of the top-16 ranked teams will be competing that day for the National Dual Meet Championship.
Tech qualified for the meet by placing 16th at the NAIA National Championships last season.
