Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team slid three spots to No. 16 in the fourth edition of the 2012-13 NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
The dip in the rankings comes after a dominant Warrior performance at the Campbellsville University Duals over the weekend. Tech went 2-0 defeating Lindenwood University-Belleville 42-9 and Darton College 40-12. In addition to their success at the duals, the Warriors also saw four wrestlers place at the Lake Erie College Storm Open.
Justin Brooks (Warsaw, IN/Indiana) gained the most ground for Tech in the NAIA Wrestling Top 16 Individuals rankings, jumping up four spots to No. 10 at 125-lbs.
Joining Brooks in the rankings were Travis Barroquillo (Wolcottville, IN/Prairie Heights), James Bennett (Bowden, GA/Darton), and Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider). Barroquillo and Bennett both maintained their positions – Barroquillo at No. 5 at 133-lbs and Bennett at No. 7 at 157-lbs – while Martin dropped to the No. 8 spot at 174-lbs.
Up next, Indiana Tech will travel to Springfield, Illinois on Jan. 12-13 for the 2013 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals where 16 of the Top 20 teams will be competing. The Warriors will have the chance to make some noise on the national stage right away when they meet top-ranked Grand View University to kick off the Duals.
