DeLong Leads Warriors at Spartan Mat Classic

North Manchester, Ind. – Freshman Taylor DeLong (Westfield, IN/Westfield) led a group of seven Warriors that placed at the 2013 Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester University on Saturday. DeLong advanced to the championship match at 184-lbs before his run came to end to claim second place.

Baldwin-Wallace University captured the team title, crowning three individual champions, and Wheaton College’s Darren Faber, who won his second straight Spartan Mat Classic title at 197-lbs, was named Outstanding Wrestler.

DeLong pinned his first two opponents in 1:22 and 4:57 to move into the championship bout. However, Daniel Olsen of Wheaton College would come away with an 11-6 decision victory.

At 125-lbs, Cameron Whitten (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) and Novric Reese (Brooklyn, NY/Muskegon) finished fourth and fifth with identical 2-2 records. Brent Browner (Jeffersonville, IN/Jeffersonville) and Andre Dunn (Kewanee, IL/Lincoln) also took home fourth place finishes. Browner went 4-2 at 157-lbs while Dunn posted a 2-2 mark at 285-lbs.

Also placing for Indiana Tech was Tyler Goldman (Fairdale, KY/Fairdale) and Kegan Clark-Sanchez (Logansport, IN/Logansport). Both earned seventh place finishes, Goldman at 165-lbs and Clark-Sanchez at 197-lbs.

The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Missouri Valley Invitational hosted by Missouri Valley College and the JV team will travel to Alma College for the Alma Open.
