Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team maintained its position at No. 16 in the fifth regular season edition of the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
Since the last poll released on Jan. 9, the Warriors dropped a pair matches at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals to No. 1 Grand View and then-No. 8 Lindsey Wilson.
At the Missouri Valley Invitational, Tech placed ninth out of 16 teams. Five Warriors placed at the tournament, including freshman Darryl Grayson (Springfield, OH/Springfield) who finished second at 174-lbs after posting a 3-1 and pinning two ranked opponents.
Indiana Tech was also represented in the NAIA Wrestling Top-16 Individuals with five wrestlers earning rankings. Jumping into the rankings for the first time was sophomore Kris McKinley (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) at No. 16 at 125-lbs. Joining him were Travis Barroquillo (Wolcottville, IN/Prairie Heights), James Bennett (Bowden, GA/Darton), Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider), and Logan Rimmer (Temperance, MI/Bedford).
Barroquillo slipped two spots to No. 7 at 133-lbs while Bennett dropped one spot to No. 8 at 157-lbs. In the 174-lbs division, Martin climbed to No. 6 and Rimmer vaulted to No. 12 at 285-lbs after sliding out of the rankings two weeks ago.
Indiana Tech will travel to Alma College on Saturday, Jan. 26 for the Alma Open, the team’s last open tournament before the regional qualifier next month.
