Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech wrestling team climbed to No. 15 in the sixth edition of the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, announced by the national office on Wednesday.
The Warriors went 1-1 last week in a pair of dual meets at Lindsey Wilson College. Tech had a dominant performance against Life University winning eight of the ten matches, four by pin, en route to a 40-7 victory. Up next, the Warriors faced No. 5 Lindsey Wilson and fell to the Blue Raiders 25-9.
In addition to their No. 15 team ranking, Indiana Tech has four individuals ranked nationally, headlined by James Bennett (Bowden, GA/Darton) at No. 5 in the 165-lbs division. Sophomore Tanner Martin (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider) held steady at No. 6 at 174-lbs and classmate Travis Barroquillo (Wolcottville, IN/Prairie Heights) slipped to No. 10 at 133-lbs. Rounding out the contingent is freshman Logan Rimmer (Temperance, MI/Bedford) coming in at No. 11 at 285-lbs, his highest ranking of the season.
The Warriors return to the mat on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the NAIA East Qualifying Group Tournament hosted by St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina with action set to get underway at 1 p.m.
The top-4 wrestlers in each weight class will automatically qualify for the 2013 NAIA National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on Feb. 28 through Mar. 2. In addition to the automatic qualifiers, there will also be 50 at-large selections.
