2013 NAIA Qualifying Group Tournament Preview

Laurinburg, N.C. – The 2013 NAIA Qualifying Group Tournaments open action at four host sites across the country on Saturday. The top four finishers in each of the group's 10 respective weight classes receive an automatic berth to the 56th annual NAIA Wrestling National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, March 1-2. The official list of national championship qualifiers will be announced on Feb. 21.

At-Large selections to the national championship are decided at the conclusion of the national qualifying group tournaments by the participating coaches.

The East Group has an NAIA-best six teams currently ranked in the latest NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll - No. 4 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), No. 5 Campbellsville (Ky.), No. 11 Cumberland (Tenn.), No. 12 Missouri Baptist, No. 15 Indiana Tech and No. 19 Cumberlands (Ky.).

Campbellsville is the East Group defending champion. Last season, the Tigers held a 66-point advantage (183.5-117.5) over second place Missouri Baptist. Campbellsville had 10 individuals earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships, including six wrestlers win individual titles.

The East Group led the quartet with 24 All-Americans at the 2012 NAIA Wrestling National Championships. Lindsey Wilson's Charlie Pingleton (157 pounds) was the only national champion from the group.

The Warriors, who finished fifth in the group a year ago, feature eight wrestlers ranked in the region led by James Bennett who is the top ranked grappler at 165-lbs. 2012 All-Americans Travis Barroquillo and Tanner Martin come in at No. 3 in their respective weight classes, 133-lbs and 174-lbs.

At 285-lbs, freshman Logan Rimmer enters at No. 4. Sidney Logan, Adam Fahs, Darryl Grayson, and Dustin Boyd are all ranked fifth in their divisions.

Action begins from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, North Carolina at 9 a.m.

133 pounds - Tyler Alsip, Campbellsville (Ky.) (No. 7)

149 pounds - Steven Sandefer, Cumberland (Tenn.) (No. 4)

157 pounds - Conor Young, Campbellsville (Ky.) (No. 1)

165 pounds - James Bennett, Indiana Tech (No. 5)

174 pounds - Eziekiel Hunt, Cumberland (Tenn.) (No. 4)

184 pounds -Joseph Stephens, Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (No. 2)

197 pounds - Allen Scruggs, Campbellsville (Ky.) (No. 3)

HWT - Michael Pezzuto, Cumberlands (Ky.) (No. 5)
