For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team completed another successful season in 2013 posting an overall record of 14-3 under the direction of first-year head coach Emily Shreeve while making their third straight trip to the NWLL Tournament championship game.

After winning the inaugural Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season and tournament titles, the Warriors made a deep postseason run in the NWLL Tournament, but fell just short of capturing their second NWLL Championship, losing to Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in the tournament finals for the second year in a row.

Tech was led this season by its All-American duo in Kendall Guthrie and Autumn McMillin. Guthrie, the NWLL Player of the Year paced the team with 72 points on 58 goals and 14 assists. She caused a team-best 20 turnovers and scooped up 71 ground balls. McMillin also had an outstanding season, fueling a Warrior attack that led the WHAC in goals per game tallying 49 goals and 14 assists.

Indiana Tech, completing its fourth season as a program, graduated its first senior class this year. The eight seniors have built the program from the ground up and have seen it grow into one of the best in the nation.

Despite the loss of their senior class, the Warriors have a solid core group of players returning, and look to be contenders for a national title once again in 2014.

Belleville, Ill. – In a rematch of last year’s National Women’s Lacrosse League championship game, No. 3-seed Indiana Tech and No. 1-seed Savannah College of Art & Design played for it all once again on Saturday on the campus of Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Illinois.

It took three overtime periods to decide a winner in last year’s title bout, but a 7-0 SCAD run during the second half of tonight’s matchup helped the Bees build a lead that proved to be too much of a deficit for the Warriors to overcome, eventually falling 19-12 as SCAD secured their second straight NWLL title.

Nikki Rottell scored early in the second half to get Tech within three, 9-6. However, SCAD answered with seven consecutive goals over the next ten minutes to build a ten goal lead with 16:44 left in the game.

Trailing 17-7 with less than ten minutes to play, All-Americans Kendall Guthrie and Autumn McMillin gave the Warriors new life combining for three consecutive goals. SCAD would answer again, though, led by the Championship MVP Kayla Nelson, striking for back-to-back goals to push the margin to nine.

NWLL Player of the Year Kendall Guthrie wouldn’t let the team go down without a fight, tallying two straight goals to get Tech within seven, 19-12, with 4:42 remaining, but that’s as close as the Warriors would get.

SCAD was led by Nelson, who scored an NWLL Championship record with nine goals.

Guthrie and Rottell scored four times each and picked up ten and eight ground balls, respectively, to pace the Warriors. McMillin finished with three goals and Clea Endres had one. Goaltender Ashley Elvey recorded 13 saves on the night.

Indiana Tech finished a very successful season under first-year head coach Emily Shreeve with a final record of 14-3 overall with a 6-0 mark in conference play to capture the first-ever WHAC championship.

April 19, 2013

For Immediate Release

Belleville, Ill. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team was on the wrong side of the ledger last time they took the field against Robert Morris University, a loss that ended Tech’s eight-game winning streak. However, the Warriors were able to avenge the regular season setback with a 19-14 win over the Eagles in the semifinals of the NWLL National Tournament on Friday night to advance to the championship game.

Robert Morris, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, cut a six goal deficit to three late in the contest, but senior Chelsea Olson delivered the dagger with 1:14 on the clock on a feed from Alexis DiGiovanni to put the game away.

Olson finished with a season-high four goals to help the 3rd-seeded Warriors make their third straight trip to the NWLL championship game.

The Warriors opened up a 3-0 lead midway through the first half getting a goal from Olson and two from Nikki Rottell. Ashley Elvey was sharp early making several big stops to keep Tech in front, but the Eagles were finally able to break through at the 14:32 mark.

With the Warriors ahead 5-3 and less than seven minutes remaining in the period, Autumn McMillin tallied back-to-back goals to give Tech a 7-3 lead at halftime.

McMillin struck again just over two minutes into the second half, but Robert Morris scored a pair of goals to get back within three, 8-5, with 25:49 left in the game.

Olson answered a few minutes later on a free-position shot, scoring the first of three unanswered goals to push the margin back to six.

The Eagles wouldn’t go down quietly, scoring five of the next seven goals to cut Tech’s lead to 13-10, but the Warriors countered with a run of their own. A DiGiovanni goal capped off the scoring spurt, putting Tech on top 17-11 at the 8:26 mark.

Robert Morris stayed in the game though, cashing in for two goals on a pair of Tech yellow cards and then scored an even-strength goal making it a 17-14 game with 3:40 remaining.

A big play on the defensive end by the NWLL Player of the Year Kendall Guthrie, blocking an RMU shot, swung the momentum which led to Olson’s goal to end the RMU rally.

McMillin and Rottell led the way with five goals apiece. Elvey had a huge night between the pipes coming up with 22 stops.

The Warriors will meet top-seeded Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in the 2013 NWLL title game, a rematch of last season’s championship bout where SCAD escaped with an 18-17 overtime win. The game is set to get underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 20.

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech’s Kendall Guthrie and Autumn McMillin were selected to the 2013 All-American Team announced by the National Women’s Lacrosse League on Wednesday night at the NWLL National Championship Opening Ceremonies and Banquet. The awarded athletes were nominated and voted on by the NWLL All-American Committee, comprised of select coaches from the league.

“I am very proud of both of our girls that were named First Team All-Americans,” said Warrior head coach Emily Shreeve. “They both are excellent players and have made a positive impact on both our team, and the whole league.”

Guthrie, who was also recently named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Year, added to her already highly decorated season by being named the NWLL Player of the Year.

“Both myself, and the other coaches in the NWLL felt Kendall was the best suited student-athlete for Player of the Year,” Shreeve added. “She is a player who can play any position across the field equally well. She also has a passion for the game, and a drive to succeed that is unmatched. This determination, backed with her athletic abilities, made her a clear winner for this award.”

The three-time All-NWLL honoree led the team to a 10-2 record during the regular season with a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play to capture the first-ever WHAC championship. The junior midfielder followed it up by guiding the Warriors to back-to-back postseason wins to claim the WHAC tournament title as well.

Guthrie, Indiana Tech’s all-time leader in points and goals, has recorded a team-best 60 points on 49 goals and 11 assists so far this season. She registered a season-high nine points in Tech’s 24-7 win over Siena Heights University scoring six times. Guthrie also leads the team with 43 ground balls.

McMillin, also a three-time All-NWLL selection, had another terrific season for the Warriors. The junior standout fueled a Tech attack that led the WHAC in goals per game tallying 38 goals and 13 assists. After the Warriors fell behind against Siena Heights in the WHAC tournament quarterfinals, McMillin took over scoring seven goals to propel Tech to a comeback win.

The third-seeded Warriors (12-2, 6-0 WHAC) will open national tournament play this afternoon against No. 6-seed St. Andrews University (9-8, 3-1 AAC) at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Illinois.

April 11, 2013

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has announced its women’s lacrosse postseason awards and Indiana Tech junior Kendall Guthrie headlined the honors by being named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Year.

In addition to her offensive player of the year accolades, Guthrie was named to the All-Conference First Team. Joining her was classmate Autumn McMillin on the First Team while six Warriors were selected to the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.

Guthrie and McMillin helped lead the Warriors to the first-ever WHAC regular season and tournament championship, finishing the season with an unblemished record in conference play. The junior duo has fueled the WHAC’s top offense as the Warriors paced the league in goals per game with 17.1.

Guthrie, Indiana Tech’s all-time record holder in points and goals, has recorded a team-best 60 points on 49 goals and 11 assists so far this season. She had a season-high nine points in Tech’s 24-7 win over Siena Heights University scoring six times. Guthrie also led the team with 43 ground balls. Meanwhile, McMillin has found the back of the net 38 times and handed out 13 helpers. She had two eight point games, both against Siena Heights. In the meeting on Apr. 11 in the WHAC Tournament semifinals, she helped spark the comeback scoring seven goals.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The top-seeded Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team held off a late charge by 2nd-seeded Aquinas College 14-13 to capture the 2013 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament championship on Saturday night at Warrior Field.

Aquinas nearly erased a late three-goal deficit, scoring twice in 18 seconds to cut the Warrior lead to one with 45 ticks left on the clock. The Saints gained control of the ensuing draw, but the WHAC Offensive Player of the Year Kendall Guthrie made the biggest defensive play of the game causing a turnover to give Tech possession and allow them to run out the clock.

In addition to their tournament title, Indiana Tech (12-2, 6-0 WHAC) also won the regular season championship after finishing the year unbeaten in conference play to earn the league’s automatic bid to the NWLL national tournament.

Aquinas (12-5, 4-2 WHAC) took the early lead in the game after Liza Flewelling found Haley Jacob for the score. Following a Tech goal by Alexis DiGiovanni, AQ’s Lauren McCarty answered with a pair of goals to give the Saints a 3-1 advantage with 19:26 remaining in the first half.

Guthrie would lead the Warriors on a big run though, scoring three times as part of a 6-1 run to pull in front 7-4 at the 7:20 mark of the first half.

McCarty found the back of the net for the third time of the night a couple minutes later to narrow the deficit to two, but DiGiovanni ripped one past the DU netminder just before halftime to give the Warriors an 8-5 advantage at the break.

The teams went back and forth through the first 15 minutes of the second half, each squad responding to the other after a goal. Tech led by three, 11-8, with less than 13 minutes to play until Aquinas’ Alexandra Burns and Kati Rogers tallied back-to-back goals to get the Saints within one.

Aquinas would keep it close the rest of the way and with the Warrior lead at two in the final two minutes of play, DiGiovanni delivered what looked to be the knockout punch, putting Tech ahead 14-11 with 1:32 on the clock.

However, the Saints had one last run in them. Less than 30 seconds later, McCarty buried a shot to give Aquinas new life, and then just 18 seconds after that Flewelling dished the ball to McCarty again who put home her seventh goal of the game making it a one score game.

McCarty finished the night with nine points, adding two assists to her seven goals, to lead the Saints. Flewelling followed with seven points, recording two goals and five assists. Bre Stockall, the WHAC Defensive Player of the Year, made 11 saves.

DiGiovanni paced the Warriors with a team-high five goals and one assist. Guthrie chipped in three goals and Holly Holod handed out three helpers. Ashley Elvey had an outstanding night between the pipes recording 15 saves.

The National Women’s Lacrosse League national tournament begins on Thursday, Apr. 18 at Lindenwood University-Belleville in Belleville, Illinois.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team clinched their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season championship following a 13-11 win over Aquinas College on Thursday night.

The Warriors came charging out of the gates, stunning the red-hot Saints, who entered the contest having won seven straight. By the time Aquinas got settled in, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome.

Indiana Tech (9-1, 5-0 WHAC) also earned the No. 1 seed and will host the first round of the inaugural WHAC Tournament.

Tech jumped all over Aquinas (8-4, 2-2 WHAC) early, as senior Nikki Rottell scored three times to help give the Warriors an 8-1 lead midway through the first half.

Aquinas’ Alexandra Burns scored two of the next three goals to narrow the deficit to six, 9-3, with 6:16 remaining in the period. Back-to-back goals though by Kendall Guthrie and Holly Holod gave the Warriors their largest lead of the night.

In the closing seconds of the half, AQ’s Lauren McCarty made an incredible shot to make it an 11-4 game at the break.

The teams traded goals a couple times to begin the second half before the momentum began to shift towards the visiting Saints.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – When Indiana Tech and Davenport University met earlier this season, the game came down to the final seconds as the Warriors prevailed 14-13. It was a different story on Wednesday night, though, as Tech took control early and never let up to earn a key conference win.

The Warriors held a 7-4 lead midway through the first half before scoring the final four goals of the period en route to the 20-12 victory.

Kendall Guthrie led the charge with a season-high six goals and adding one assist.

The Panthers would never get any closer though as Alexis DiGiovanni, Guthrie, and Aubri Hazen answered with goals to put the game out of reach.

Autumn McMillin notched three goals and three assists while DiGiovanni, Hazen, and Alexa Winter scored two times each. Ashley Elvey finished the night with seven saves.

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The No. 3 Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team escaped with a 14-13 victory over Davenport University in Saturday night’s Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener.

The Warriors (2-0, 1-0 WHAC) held a five goal lead with less than ten minutes to play, but four unanswered goals by the No. 10 Panthers cut the Tech lead to one. Davenport got off a shot just before the final horn but it was blocked by the Warriors to preserve the win.

Kendall Guthrie had four goals to lead the way for the Warriors while Autumn McMillin scored three times.

Seniors Clea Endres and Holly Holod helped get the Warriors out to an early 6-1 advantage tallying two goals apiece.

Davenport (5-2, 0-1 WHAC) fought back scoring four of the next five goals to narrow the gap to 7-5 with 9:55 remaining in the first half.

Freshman Alexa Winter notched her second goal of the season to push the lead back to two, but DU’s Kaitlyn Lowden found the back of the net just seconds before halftime to make it an 8-6 Warrior lead at the break.

The Panthers got within one in the first minute of the second half, but McMillin would strike back with three consecutive goals.

Tech extended their lead to 12-7, but the home team refused to go away easily, responding with two straight goals to get within three with 20:29 to play in the game. Guthrie beat the DU keeper seconds later though and would tack on another goal at the 13:24 mark to put the Warriors on top 14-9.

After a span of five scoreless minutes, Davenport would have one last rally in them scoring four times over the next three and a half minutes to close the deficit to just one, 14-13.

At the 3:35 mark, Nikki Rottell had a chance to add an insurance goal for the Warriors on a free position shot, but DU’s goalie made the save followed by another big stop on a shot by Guthrie to keep the lead at one. In the closing seconds, Lowden got off a potential game-tying shot, but it was blocked by the Tech defense.

Guthrie added a team-high three groundballs to her four goals. Rottell and Bobbi Mills also contributed goals for Tech. Senior netminder Ashley Elvey finished the night with 11 saves.

Davenport was led by Kaitlyn Lowden and Tara Pluger with five goals each.

The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 12 in Allendale, Michigan for a non-conference game against Grand Valley State University beginning at 7 p.m.

Lebanon, Ill. – Indiana Tech Head Coach Emily Shreeve got her coaching career started off right with a season opening 17-6 win at McKendree University on Saturday.

McKendree capitalized on a free position shot to cut the deficit to four, but the Warriors would end the period with six unanswered goals, including one by senior Clea Endres with only four seconds before the horn.

Alexis DiGiovanni took advantage of a man-up opportunity early in the second half to extend Tech’s lead to 13-2. Guthrie followed a few minutes later with her second strike of the day as the Warriors cruised to the victory.

The Warriors had a balanced attack getting goals from 12 different players. Holly Holod and Aubri Hazen finished with two goals and one assist each. Nikki Rottell and Autumn McMillin also tallied two goals apiece.
February 12, 2013

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech women’s lacrosse team will begin their 2013 campaign on Tuesday, Feb. 26 when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan when they scrimmage against the Wolverines of the University of Michigan. The Warriors will then have a couple days rest before they play their first regular season game at McKendree University on Saturday, Mar. 2.

The Warriors look to build off of their 14-win season where they were the National Women’s Lacrosse League (NWLL) regular season champions. Tech also had an impressive postseason run in the NWLL Tournament, but fell in the championship game to SCAD in triple overtime.

At the helm for Indiana Tech is first-year Head Coach Emily Shreeve. Shreeve and her Warriors had a tremendous fall posting a perfect 4-0 record and will look to carry over that success into the spring.

Key returners for the Warriors are seniors Holly Holod and Chelsea Olson, and juniors Kendall Guthrie and Autumn McMillin. Guthrie was the team leader in points with 88, followed by McMillin with 64, Olson with 54, and Holod added 43 for the Warriors. Olson, Guthrie, and McMillin all tied for the team leaders in assists (14).

Another key asset to the Warriors is senior goalkeeper Ashley Elvey. During the fall season she held Michigan State to one goal, and her presence between the pipes this season will hopefully put Tech on the winning side of the championship game. Also helping on the defensive side for the Warriors are Emily Bell and Delaney McIntyre. The two have a vast understanding of what the attack will do and are able to execute defensive strategies with precision.

Look for newcomers are Aubri Hazen and Alexa Winter, both of which will be playing midfield and attack, to make an immediate impact. Hazen is a natural athlete who understands how to be a scorer and also a playmaker to set up her teammates. Winter’s speed makes her an offensive threat that will give the Warriors a great transition game.

This is the inaugural season for women’s lacrosse in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and the Warriors first conference game is on Mar. 9 when they travel to Davenport University.

For Immediate Release

Grand Rapids, Mich. – First year women’s lacrosse head coach Emily Shreeve got her coaching career started off on the right foot, leading her Warriors to a perfect 4-0 record during their fall ball games on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Tech posted victories over the University of Michigan 12-3, Albion College 11-4, Central Michigan University 14-1, and Michigan State University 10-2.

Even though they were just exhibition games, Shreeve and the Warriors showed that the team hasn’t missed a beat since going 14-5 and winning an NWLL Championship a season ago.

“Our defense played great and had phenomenal communication,” said Shreeve. “Our transitions were very clean and we were able to move the ball down the field quickly, and our offense was well executed with every player being a threat.”

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Elvey (Holland, OH/St. Ursula) was also outstanding between the pipes, allowing just one goal in three halves of play.

The Warriors will open the regular season on Mar. 7 in Chicago, Illinois against Robert Morris University.
