Get to know Coach Karasek
Coach Karasek recruited and established the inaugural Women’s Varsity Lacrosse team at Indiana Tech during 2009. The team began playing as an all-freshman team in the Spring of 2010. The young team finished with a respectable record of 14-7. Coach Karasek says “We surprised a lot of our opponents with such young talent. Nearly every win was an upset.”
After joining the National Women’s Lacrosse League (NWLL) in 2011, Karasek guided the Warriors to the league’s first ever NWLL Tournament Championship and finished with an impressive 18-4 overall season record.
In the summer of 2011, four Tech players traveled to Europe to play for the USA AI National Team. The team competed in the Berlin Open International Lacrosse Tournament on June 17-19, 2011. This is the biggest and most traditional lacrosse tournament in Europe. The USA AI team placed second.
At the end of the Fall Semester, 2011, the women’s varsity lacrosse team had an average GPA of 3.30 with twelve players carrying a GPA of 3.50 or higher. This supports Coach’s philosophy which emphasizes high academics.
Karasek has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, and an MBA from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Coach Karasek played varsity lacrosse at B.G.S.U. under the legendary soccer/lacrosse coach, Mickey Cochrane.
“My plan is to have a positive impact on each player, understanding that academics are most important and enhances team play. Athletics and sportsmanship, however, will build the individual’s overall character, level of confidence, fitness and personal identity. Together we will build a winning tradition in Women’s Lacrosse at Indiana Tech.”
