BA 2850 Managing in the Legal Environment

Course Description: Managing in the Legal Environment BA 2850 presents an overview of the legal environment from the perspective of the non-legal manager. I concentrates on the main sources of law, the major areas of common law that apply to managers, the major regulatory agencies influencing the management process and the components of employment law.

Prerequisite: BA 2010 Principles of Management

Specific Concepts to Address:

  • Function of law
  • Judicial process
  • Administrative law, common law and civil law
  • Significant court cases affecting commerce
  • Trends affecting commerce
  • Legal liabilities for management

Suggested Emphases:

  • Thorough discussion of common law
  • Thorough discussion of regulation
  • Relationship between corporate social responsibility and law
  • Distinguish law from morals and ethics
