BA 3880 Commercial Law

Course Description: Commercial Law BA 3880 is a presentation of the Articles of the Uniform Commercial Code regulating the establishment of businesses. Sales, purchasing, negotiable instruments, commercial paper, secured transactions and bankruptcy will be reviewed.

Textbook: West's Business Law; Jentz-Miller. Thompson Learning.

Prerequisite: Junior standing or departmental chair approval

Specific Concepts to Address:

  • Function of commercial law and corresponding terminology
  • Legal concepts pertaining to sales and purchasing, public interest, problem prevention and solution
  • Major court cases and statutes contributing to the development of commercial law
  • Current trends
  • Legal liabilities for management

Suggested Emphases:

  • Distinguish commercial law from common law
  • Legal implications for managers involved in sales, purchasing and banking
  • Relationship between corporate social responsibility and law
