MIS 1300 Software Tools

Course Description: MIS 1300 Software Tools presents a variety of productivity software within an office suite. It includes word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and office automation features.

Textbook: Grauer, Robert T., and Maryann Barber, Exploring Microsoft Office 2000 Professional, Vol. I, Upper Saddle River, Prentice Hall, 1999.

Prerequisites: CIS 1100

Specific Concepts to Address:

  • Word processing (Word) document creation and editing
  • Spreadsheet (Excel) creation and editing
  • Database (Access) creation, editing and reporting
  • Compiling (PowerPoint) presentations including word processing, speradsheet and database documents
  • Creation and use of (Outlook) calendar and email
  • Contrast Internet Explorer with Netscape

Suggested Emphases:

  • Analysis of tools' strengths and weaknesses (compared to nearest competitors)
  • Demonstration of ability to create documents and use a variety of software tools
  • Writing skills expected of a professionally employed adult
