Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry seeks to provide a safe and stimulating place for students,
staff, and faculty at Indiana Tech to explore their spirituality, investigate
the possibility of a relationship with God, and to nurture and nourish that
relationship if one is established. We also seek to encourage the growth of
community on campus among those who participate in our activities.
As a ministry to
students, we offer Bible studies, special recreational and social events,
opportunities to become involved in local and national service projects,
ecumenical worship services on campus, special seminars, concerts on campus, a
weekly electronic devotional distributed at no expense over the Internet, an
annual spring break work trip, and one-on-one mentoring and discipleship
opportunities. We constantly seek to provide programs and opportunities that
are both helpful and hope-filled to all facets of the campus community. It is
our desire to remind the academic community on an ongoing basis that the
secular and the sacred, reason and faith, must be held in balance in any honest
intellectual search.
The Campus Minister at Indiana Tech, Ben Gates, has been active in ministry for
over twenty years. He has rich experience working with college-age youth in
both church and campus settings. His counseling training included a student
chaplaincy at Parkview Memorial Hospital here in Fort Wayne. He has taught
history courses at a number of local colleges and universities, including
Indiana Tech. Ben's main focus is to encourage students to investigate the
claims of Jesus Christ and to introduce them to a real and vital relationship
with Him as Savior and Lord. He wants to see students experience the power and
the reality of the love of God while providing a safe environment to doubt, ask
questions and even struggle with God. Ben and his wife Janet have two sons,
Alex and Benjamin.
