Communications B.A.

Program Curriculum

Communication is one of the most fundamental aspects of our personal and professional lives. Learning to communicate effectively, either interpersonally or publicly, can be crucial to a person's success in life and business. Indiana Tech's communication degree offers students a well-rounded educational experience, pooling together a variety of courses in business, humanities, psychology, and social sciences along with the focused communication courses. The communication degree offers students an opportunity to concentrate in one of four different aspects of communication: advertising, digital media, journalism, or public relations.

Careers in advertising demand effective oral and written communication skills. The advertising concentration includes a focus on marketing and advertising, as well as personal selling. Graduates with this concentration could become advertising or marketing specialists, copy writers, account executives, media planners, creative directors, and more.

Digital media focuses on the development of web, multimedia and e-commerce. Courses are offered in desktop publishing, web design, and digital imaging including the use of Adobe Photoshop.

The journalism concentration offers the student an opportunity to excel in careers such as photographer, news reporter, editor, copy writer, news service researcher, media interviewer, and more. Focus is given on writing for print media, information gathering, and reporting, as well as editing and design.

Public relations is a field that offers a wide variety of careers, from publicity managers, press agents, and lobbyists for large corporations or government agencies to development officer, fund raiser and membership recruiter for small non-profits. The public relations major will learn the more detailed aspects of public relations, as well as crisis communication and conflict resolution.
