Therapeutic Recreation B.S.
There are few careers in life more rewarding than working with individuals who
have special needs. With a degree in therapeutic recreation you'll have the
opportunity to work with these individuals in a hospital, mental health center,
camp, nursing home or rehabilitation center setting. Using guidelines set by
the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Indiana Tech
makes it possible for students to achieve NCTRC national certification.
Students will also participate in a full-time internship their final semester.
Therapeutic recreation prepares the individual for employment or graduate
studies in leisure services and recreation. The recreation professional is a
diagnostician of needs and a programmer and manager of physical, social, and
cultural activities and facilities. The degree in therapeutic recreation gives
students practical experience and a theoretical background sufficient to work
in therapeutic and clinical settings.
This program is designed with flexibility to accommodate various options and
individual student interests. A broad, integrative base for a wide range of
vocational opportunities is provided through the program. Students will
take core courses, supplemented with field experiences, and electives from
prescribed areas.
