Fort Wayne, Ind.—The Indiana Tech Career Center celebrated student interns and their employers at the 5th annual Internship Recognition Breakfast on April 24.
Janet Boston, executive director of Indiana INTERN.net, attended the event and announced the winners of the Intern of the Year, Employer of the Year, and Outstanding Participation awards.
Fifteen students were nominated for Intern of the Year, and the award went to Baily Tom for her internship with OmniSource. Tom is a senior from Monroe, Mich., with a major in business administration-human resources.
“Due to her level of maturity, solid understanding of HR practices, and cultural fit to the organization, it was quickly recognized that Baily was equipped to handle more than the responsibilities originally intended for her internship,” her supervisor, Staci Beiswanger said. “She is passionate about her career choice, ethical in her approach, confident in her ability, uses good judgement in her decision-making processes, and empathetic towards others. Her positive attitude and outgoing personality will serve her well as she continues on her career path. … She is an exceptional team player with a strong work ethic.”
Three students received an Honorable Mention certificate for their outstanding work:
Steel Dynamics/OmniSource was named Employer of the Year. The company has mentored several Indiana Tech interns and has participated in Mock Interview Day and other Career Center events.
Lincoln Financial Group earned the Outstanding Participation award. Given for the first time this year, the award recognizes one employer that has gone above and beyond to participate in Career Center events.
