Annual Convocation Focuses on Tradition
Fort Wayne, Ind. -- Indiana Tech’s 2010 convocation will focus on the theme “Tradition Begins with Me.” The event begins at 1 p.m. August 31 in the Schaefer Center gym.
The ceremonial event will include:
- A welcome from Dr. Dennis J. Gayle, vice president of academic affairs
- Remarks on tradition from Dr. Arthur E. Snyder, president
- Recollections and encouragement from Irvin J. Kontowsky, an Indiana Tech alumnus
- Presentation of the Leepoxy Faculty Award for Innovative Practices to a member of the faculty
Indiana Tech has been steadily increasing campus activities and establishing new traditions in recent years. The theme “Tradition Begins with Me” alludes to those new traditions and encourages students to be active participants in campus life.
The comments by Kontowksy will include his reflections on the values he learned at Indiana Tech, the career challenges he has overcome, and his advice for today’s students. Kontowsky earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering management technology at Indiana Tech in 1994 and returned to earn an MBA in 2000. He is currently warehouse and shipping manager at Omega Plastics Corporation in Elkhart, Ind.
Indiana Tech began holding an annual convocation in 2007 as a means to gather students, faculty, and staff together to address a topic relevant to personal and professional development.
