A random selection of Indiana Tech's financial aid student population is chosen every year by the Department of Education for a process called verification. This requires the financial aid office to request a copy of the student's and parent's (unless considered independent by the FAFSA) federal tax return and W-2s, as well as the latest verification worksheet and supporting documentation to assist us in verifying FAFSA data. If you are an independent student, a signed copy of both the student and spouse's tax information will be requested.
When all required documentation has been received, the submitted tax information will be compared against the reported tax information on the FAFSA. Any discrepancies will be reported back to the Department of Education and could change the results of the FAFSA and your aid offer. A revised package will be sent notifying you of this change.
In some cases a student and/or his or her parent(s) may report that they made little or no income and were not required to file a tax return. In this instance, the financial aid office will require the completion of the clarification of income form. If this form is required to complete the verification, it will be mailed to the student and/or parent.
Documentation Timeline: All documents must be received within two weeks of request but no later than the last date of attendance! Until all documentation has been received and the information verified, funds will not be released to the student's account.
