Therapeutic Recreation, B.S.
Believe it or not, recreation can be tough work. That is, it’s tough for the people in charge of organizing, overseeing, and managing it. Our recreation management and therapeutic recreation programs prepare you for that challenge. You’ll learn to diagnose needs, develop programs, and manage physical, social, and cultural activities.
These programs have been designed according to national recreation curricular guidelines. Indiana Tech abides by the guidelines set by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) for therapeutic recreation.
Program Description
Therapeutic recreation uses concepts similar to the recreation management program, but focuses on using those concepts in a clinical setting. You’ll be trained to use recreation as a technique to help people with physical and mental challenges and disabilities. The coursework also prepares you for the NCTRC national certification exam.
Career Outlook
You may find work at parks and recreation complexes, fitness centers, amusement centers, community centers, church ministries, YMCAs, YWCAs, art councils, hospitals, veterans’ centers, sporting goods companies, social agencies, in scouting, and more. The electives, special topics, and internships you choose can tailor your education toward the recreation career field that interests you most.
