Online Course Policies
Policy Concerning Students with Disabilities
Indiana Tech is committed to ensuring the full participation of all students in its programs. If you have a documented disability requiring academic adjustments or accommodations, please notify the instructor within a week after the course start date. Early notification will ensure that your learning experience is not compromised or delayed.

Policy Concerning Academic Honesty
- Student Dishonesty: Student dishonesty (cheating or plagiarism) will not be tolerated in any class (face-to-face, online, or Independent Study) at Indiana Tech. Inform the class instructor, or the appropriate academic dean, if there is suspicion that a student is cheating or plagiarizing. Anonymity will be protected.
- Plagiarism: All work must be your own. Plagiarism (defined as presenting someone else's work as if it were one's own) is serious academic theft.
- Consequences: Any form of dishonesty (cheating or plagiarism) will, at a minimum, result in a failing grade for either the assignment or exam, and can result in a failing grade for the course.
Code of Ethics and Conduct Policy
Students are expected to conduct themselves according to the Indiana Tech Code of Ethics at all times. If a student violates this code, faculty members are required to complete an Infraction Card and submit it to the dean of their college. The Infraction Cards, as well as any investigative reports, will be kept on file in order to track any repetitive misconduct issues. Completion of an Infraction Card does not necessarily indicate future or additional remediation or punishment. In the event that additional intervention is deemed necessary, the Student Conduct Committee will fully investigate the incident.
"No Show" Withdrawal Policy
Students are required to access the Blackboard course web site no later than the end of the first week of the class as proof of course attendance. Failure to complete this task will be treated as a "no show" and result in an administrative withdrawal from the class.
Academic Withdrawal Policy
You can withdraw from an online course without academic record until the end of the first week of the course (all session lengths). Withdrawals with record are allowed until the end of week 3 for five- and six-week courses; until the end of week 5 for 10-week courses; and until the end of week 6 for 12-week courses. See the Refund Policy below for information on refunds. You must contact the Warrior Information Network (WIN) at 888-832-4742 or WIN@IndianaTech.edu to withdraw or you will receive a failing grade and be charged for the class.
Refund Policy
An online course can be dropped without charge until the end of the first week of the session (e.g., the first Friday). Drops during the second week will receive a 75 percent refund. Third-week drops will receive a 50 percent refund. This applies to all session lengths. Drops can be handled by phone or via e-mail.
You must contact the Warrior Information Network (WIN) at 888-832-4742 or WIN@IndianaTech.edu to withdraw (drop) or you will receive a failing grade and be charged for the class.
Returning Course Materials
Students who drop with 100% tuition refund are required to return the supplied course materials within 2 weeks of the withdrawal date. All returned materials should be in good condition. Students will be charged $150 for not returning the course materials or for materials that cannot be redistributed (activation code had been redeemed, sealed CD or software package had been opened, etc.).
Incomplete Grades
If you are unable to complete the requirements of a course due to extenuating circumstances, an Incomplete grade (I) may be granted. If an Incomplete is granted, the instructor will set a deadline for all work to be completed. All Incomplete grades and deadlines are subject to approval by the dean.
Course Surveys
Your opinions count! In addition to the course specific requirements, you are required to participate in the following two surveys as an Indiana Tech distance learning student. The Office of Distance Learning pledges that, as a participant in the surveys, your identity is kept confidential and the results will only be used for the intended purpose.
Learner Experience Survey
It is essential for Indiana Tech to provide you with an optimal virtual learning environment. Your feedback is important in order for us to maintain an environment where you find the information is readily available, the service is pleasant, and the support is efficient. This survey asks your experience:
- on the course availability information and the course registration process, with the non-technical support and service (course startup – initial contacts with email/blackboard account activation/access)
- with the technical support (ST@T help desk, ITS support), and
- with the course delivery platform and related functions (user interface, navigation, using discussions, using assignment).
You will receive an email on the third week notifying you that the survey is open for your input. Please follow the instructions given in the email message to complete this survey.
Your participation in the learner experience survey fulfills the “continue enrollment” requirement.
Course Evaluation
Like any on-campus class, it is essential for your professor to hear from you regarding your online learning experience in this class. Your responses to the course evaluation questions are important in order for the course instructor to assess the effectiveness of instruction and to improve instructional delivery.
Your participation in the course evaluation is anonymous to the course instructor. The course evaluation results will be made available as “group data” to the course instructor only after the professor has submitted the course grades to the registrar’s office. Your identity is confidential.
You will receive an email during the final week of the class. Please follow the instructions in the email for the course evaluation. Please note that you will have access to your course grade only after you have completed the course evaluation.
