The Exploratory Program
What is the Exploratory Program?
The Exploratory Program is a stepping stone for students who are committed to a quality college education, but unsure of their life-plan after graduation.
The Exploratory Program allows students to complete general courses and to discover the variety of educational options open to them. Professors and advisors work with exploratory students to help them discover their greatest strengths and areas of passion. Students’ coursework is then transferred into a full-time baccalaureate or associate degree program. Students may remain in this track for two semesters or 30 credits (not including developmental courses).
Who is your advisor?
For all students in the Exploratory Program, except for those students also enrolled in Tech LEADS, The advisors in the Career Center serves as their academic advisor, and work with students to assess what they term the VIPS – Values, Interest, Personality, & Skills. Students complete a process whereby they go through personal self-assessments, interest and personality inventories, and goal setting exercises to explore careers they are interested in learning more about.
Students also have the opportunity to meet with faculty members in various fields and complete informational interviews with employers and alumni to learn more about their areas of interest.
As part of this class, students attend “Major Investigations” where area alumni and employers talk about the various careers you can have with a specific major; and “Not A Minor Matter” where students learn more about the minors offer through the university and campus professional organizations tied to degree programs.
