Hello, my name is Tim Mirtz and I am the coordinator for the Physical Education Teacher Education program here at Indiana Tech. I am excited to be here at Indiana Tech and the Fort Wayne community. I am a native of the state of Kansas but am quickly finding out that Indiana has a geography, climate and culture very similar to my home state.
I am excited that you are considering coming to Indiana Tech to pursue Physical Education as your academic major. Whether you wish to pursue teaching at either the elementary or secondary level a degree in Physical Education from Indiana Tech can open up many doors for you to grow personally and professionally. At Indiana Tech you will find the Physical Education program to be one that will encompass many aspects. Our current students experience a curriculum strong in sport and physical fitness, sport/motor skills, and instructional methodology. However, the area that we believe sets us apart is the practical hands-on learning that you will get in your coursework here at Indiana Tech.
I have taught Health and Physical Education at schools such as The University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kansas), Washburn University (Topeka, Kansas), Bethany College (Lindsborg, Kansas), and the University of South Dakota (Vermillion, South Dakota). I have also taught as an adapted physical educator at an alternative school called South East South Dakota Activities Center (Vermillion, South Dakota). I have also coordinated motor skills education programming with HeadStart programs and have worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities through the Kansas Special Olympics (Lawrence, Kansas) as a motor skills instructor. My research interests are in child physical activity, adapted physical activity/education and alternative health methods.
If I can answer any questions you have about the Physical Education program here at Indiana Tech, please feel free to contact me. Again, welcome to Indiana Tech!!!
