Imagine a colorful stream of people all running or walking one-mile down Wayne Street from downtown at the corner of Wayne and Barr to Howard Street near the Fort Wayne campus of Indiana Tech. There are young children, students, adults, and even some grandparents all participating together in this heart-healthy activity! Non-competitive participants are encouraged to wear costumes to add to the festivity of this fun event!
The Warrior Run for One is an annual activity that takes place in the spring. A shorter one-mile distance was chosen for the following reasons:
- Almost anyone can participate
- Whole families can participate together
- To provide competitive runners with a race that is a fairly flat, straight, true one-mile course
- Even those who are not in great running shape can still jog or walk the route
- To promote a heart-healthy lifestyle
There is even a "Tot Trot" for children 0–2 years and 3–6 years of age during the awards ceremony. Truly all ages can enjoy this fun event!
For competitive runners, there are cash prizes for the top three male and female runners and special awards for the top three Masters male and female participants. In addition to awards for the top overall finishers, awards also are given in various age categories for both male and female runners.
And to reward those who come in costume, prizes will be awarded in the following costume categories: funniest, most creative, best Warrior spirit, best Fort Wayne spirit, ugliest, and most unusual.
All funds raised during the 2012 Warrior Run for One will be split between the Warrior Club and the Northeast Indiana Burn Council.
