Warrior Run for One shows good turnout
On Sunday, May 1, runners and walkers of all ages paraded down Wayne Street from downtown Fort Wayne to the Indiana Tech campus. It was the second annual Warrior Run for One.
Participants from last year's Run for One event race to the finish line.
This event provides runners and walkers of all types with a perfect opportunity to get outside and exercise. Since the distance is only one mile, people of varying abilities can all compete. Participants are also encouraged to come dressed in costumes to add to the fun.
It is quite the sight to see the strand of people stretching down Wayne Street as each person moves forward toward the finish line. Some folks strain with everything they have to beat their personal best time, others take it easy and enjoy the scenery, there are parents running alongside their young children, families are jogging in stride, and some are happy just to walk the one-mile route. In the end, this day is about promoting a heart-healthy lifestyle and encouraging all people to make the time to exercise in a way that fits their shape, size, age, and ability.
Following the run, an awards ceremony was held inside the Schaefer Center. Just like last year, one of the highlights was the Tot Trot race across the gym floor. There was some fierce competition among this group of youngsters, but everyone walked away a winner with a nice ribbon. Ribbons were also awarded to the top three finishers in each of the male and female age categories and medals were received by the top three overall male and female winners.
This year’s top three overall male and female winners were as follows:
- Josh Wolfe
- Brad Thomas
- Shane Peterson
- Aubree Reichel
- Taylor Peterson
- Dana Peterson
Plans are already in the works to make next year’s Warrior Run for One bigger and better! Be watching for details coming soon for the 2012 event!
