Meet Mike Peterson, new director of alumni relations
I am a native of Fort Wayne and have lived here most of my life. In fact, my parents were one of the early “settlers” of Pine Valley, moving into the home in which they still live just a few weeks after I was born. Seven years ago, my wife and kids and I moved back to the old neighborhood ourselves – just couldn’t stay away from my (Pine tree) roots!
Mike Peterson, director of alumni relations
After four great years at Concordia High School (which has its roots on the current Fort Wayne campus of Indiana Tech) where I played football and ran track, I moved down the road to Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. I played football at Anderson during my freshman year before hanging up the cleats for good. One afternoon, early in my days at Anderson, I walked into the cafeteria to hear the voice of a girl that I went to high school with at Concordia. She invited me over and introduced me to one of her friends – Dana. As I turned to look at this beautiful young lady, a bright glow enveloped her head, and I heard the voices of angels singing. I struggled to come up with a cool line, but all I could muster was, "Hi." About a month later, though, we went on our first date. When our four years of college were complete, Dana graduated with a degree in Social Work, I graduated with a degree in Marketing, and then we walked down the aisle to become husband and wife. This past June, we celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary.
Dana and I have four very active children of whom we are quite proud. Our oldest, Shane, will be a freshman at Carroll High School this fall where he plans to play football and basketball, in addition to running track. Luke will be in eighth grade at Maple Creek. He enjoys participating in football, wrestling, and track. Amber will be in seventh grade at Maple Creek where she is an outstanding student. She also enjoys singing, acting, and gymnastics. Our youngest, Taylor, will be a fifth grader at Perry Hill Elementary. She is very bright, funny, and an excellent little runner!
Prior to joining the Institutional Advancement team at Indiana Tech, I served eleven years in youth ministry and worked three years in sales for an office technology company. I also enjoy performing comedy magic and mentalism for kids of all ages at birthday parties, school carnivals, church events, company picnics, etc. Staying in shape is important to me, so I try to run and lift weights three times per week in the Indiana Tech Wellness Center. My wife and I enjoy cheering on our kids, riding bikes, watching movies, playing games with friends, and going on dates – with each other!
I am excited about my new role as the director of alumni relations and hope to bring some fresh ideas that will spur a growing enthusiasm for Tech and provide many opportunities for our alums to connect or reconnect with each other! These are exciting times to be a part of the Warrior community – come grow with us!
