Ten Questions from Tech: Heather (O'Rourke) Brown
We recently touched base with Heather (O'Rourke) Brown (B.S. in Management, 2006) and asked her a few questions about what she is currently up to.
Hometown: Ocean City, New Jersey
Current City: Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania
Career/Current Employer: Homemaker/Part Time Sales Support for Macy’s
What do you love about your work: As a homemaker I get to spend the day with my child and watch her grow…As Sales Support, I enjoy the fast-paced environment and being able to make my own hours.
Best Tech Memory: Meeting my wonderful husband (Chris) and my best friends!
Favorite Tech Faculty or Staff: Dr. Walls, Professor Malloris & Professor Briegel
Most useful thing I learned at Tech: I learned how to be accountable to others and how to admit when I’m wrong. Also, I learned that if you don’t understand something it is better to ask about it then to remain ignorant and confused!
Do you keep in touch with other alums: Yes, I keep in touch with several of my roommates, and other softball players. I also keep in touch with many of the alumni and active members of Sigma Phi Epsilon as my husband is a member.
A key piece of advice you would give to current students: Make it a priority to get to your early morning classes. Believe me, I know how difficult it can be to get up on time to get to those early classes. It was a struggle for me. However, when you get into the workforce, many jobs will require early arrival. For example, I worked at 6:00 a.m. every morning last year, and now my husband works at 6:00 a.m. every morning. Also, I would encourage students to take a philosophy class if possible. It really made me think and opened my mind to new ideas.
Anything else you want other alumni to know about you: I never thought I would say it, but I actually miss Fort Wayne, and I miss being in school. Enjoy your days at Tech while you can!
