The fundamental mission of the College of Engineering is to provide the
individual student with an educational foundation broad enough to support a
lifetime of learning, and specific enough to provide the necessary skills for a
successful entry into professional life or graduate study in the engineering
disciplines and/or computer science.
The engineer of the future will have to function in a global marketplace, driven
by technology and ruled by open competition. The College of Engineering
recognizes that its fundamental obligation is to provide an engineering
education rooted in solid fundamental knowledge, and structured around
up-to-date technical skills. However, it must also provide undergraduate
students with a liberal humanistic education to help them acquire an
understanding of society and their cultural heritage; it must provide them with
breadth of knowledge and the sensitivity to weigh ethical and moral issues.
