Credit for Prior Learning

Credit for Prior Learning is college-level learning achieved through skills, competencies, and knowledge acquired outside traditional classroom settings. Indiana Tech believes that what a student knows is more important than how this knowledge was obtained and, therefore, will evaluate knowledge and skills gained through non-classroom experiences for college credit. Students can earn CPL through certifications, industry and corporate training programs, professional licenses, microcredentials, challenge exams, and other training and development.

Documentation required for this type of CPL:

• Copy of certification or license
• Description of training and verification of completion
• Exam and score
• Other forms of verification from employers

If you believe you have experiences or qualifications that may earn CPL, please submit them to your Admissions Representative for review.

Prior Learning Assessment through Portfolio Review

The Portfolio Review process is for students who want to earn academic credit by submitting a written portfolio for specific courses based on prior learning and work experience. Students interested in this can gain further information by reviewing the document below and working with their Admissions Representative. This option is only available for undergraduate and doctoral students.
